Flower photos make me feel shamefully dirty. EVERYONE takes photos of flowers, and they're really not unique to Monmouth County.

And this, in particular, is a blatant Georgia O'Keefe ripoff.

I have no idea what kind of flower it is, though. It's part of a snapdragon-y bush.

hhhhmmm... is this a crop?...

Oh yes.

How ashamed should I be for the obviousness of the crop?

i don't know that it is obvious... i asked because i was wondering if you made this composition in-camera or in post...

to me (and i would stress 'to me), the focus of the images seems a touch off... my eye is drawn to in the center... and there is no 'pay-off' in looking at it...

if i may venture an opinion, the focus should either be the three petals... which make nice graphic/formal masses... and that could be done by cropping less...

or the focus should the point of focus on the petals on the left bottom part of the flower... in which case the frame needs to move just a touch to the left...

take that for what it is worth... and that ain't much...

I tried to compose this in-camera, but I couldn't get close enough. So I got as close as I could with the intention of cropping afterwards.

Slightly to the left- and part of the reason it's cropped this way- is a dark, distracting twig.

My eye, when looking at this, goes to the orange-y junction where the three petals meet the back petal, but I notice (now that you've mentioned it) that the central negative-space triangle is pretty attention-grabbing, too.

In general, I don't really understand the payoff in looking at pictures of flowers, so it follows that sometimes I'd miss my mark. ;)

(chuckle)... says the woman with a notable amount of flower pics...

(nodding)... it can be difficult to stand back and see the print when you know what was the more compelling part of the image in the viewfinder... i struggle with that all the time...

hey... i just noticed something... look at the square crop of your thumbs... that works a bit better, i think... interesting...
