I'm kind of amused by your assessment of this picture, which you've left off at MCDP. It's evident you feel that blog has much less pretense of quality.

Plus- minorish problems seem much more problematic at a bigger resolution.

the clarinet is such a "noble" intstrument. Very elegant!

I like the shot, for the "candid" people shot that it is.

Z- Noble? I'm a trombone player... I've never really liked clarinets. Even Benny Goodman annoys me. :)

Nikon- Well, I need to put aside my macro obsession for the sake of variety every now and then. :)

But you do such GOOD macros..........

But this is the "Ocean Township Daily Photo" blog, introducing visitors to the shore area of Monmouth County... NOT, in fact, the "Josy Is Obsessed With Making Small Things Look Big" blog. I have to remind myself of that sometimes.

I used to play clarinet and loved it except for one thing... I thought it made people look ugly as they blow on it.

Actually, Carol, did you know that that's the reason women were forbidden to play wind instruments for many years? Because of that facial distortion, it was considered "unladylike." There was the odd freak show of women who DID wield such instruments, but overall, women blowing into instruments didn't become common until this past century.

And even NOW, there are gender stereotypes as to what instruments are "ladylike." Flute, clarinet, oboe, French horn... it's very rare to walk into a professional orchestra concert and see women playing trombone or tuba.

Wow, sorry, didn't mean to go off on a rant like this.

Indeed, the new Principal Tuba of Philly Orchestra is a 19 year old girl.

BTW - I play clarinet in Colts Neck Band...its a fabu instrument!
