Basically, it is famous for launching the careers of Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, and a few others. The club originally opened in 1974, grew famous, filed for bankruptcy and closed in 1991 (as Asbury Park deteriorated), reopened in 2000, and remains a popular venue in the Jersey Shore music scene today.

Whenever I express my distaste for Bruce Springsteen, people look at me like I have 5 heads and say, "and you call yourself a NEW JERSIAN?!" It's HERESY not to like the guy 'round these parts.
