It looks like butterfly milkweed to me. It adds a splash of color to our Kansas country side every summer. Dunno if it grows in the tropics, but it's wild in the midwest.
Good call. It's at Wikipedia under butterfly weed, with a picture showing similar features as Josy's taken in Pennsylvania.
Here's another picture, from Texas, which I find noteworthy because they took the trouble to show the scale.
