cliche

Well, I've got this out of my system now, anyway. It's one of those things that all camera-wielding people need to try at some point.

If you actually want to see a valid photo of Monmouth County, click here.

Edit: Guess what? I just discovered a whole bunch of photo theme sites, and this one JUST HAPPENS to fit Photo Sharks' theme of "identity." And I'm contributor #42. 42 is a good number.

i was going to make a clever quip about iridology and bowels but thought better of it....

I had to look up iridology. I've never heard of that before.

But my bowels are functioning quite nicely, thank you for asking.

This is a stunning picture. You may call it cliché, and a lot of people do seem to use an eye close-up as their avatar/icon on various sites, but this one is... different. For one, it's really close up. For another, you've (once again) picked an interesting and effective shooting angle. I think it's also honest and ususual. It's not something you'd see in a cosmetics ad, for example. The iris detail is simply wow.

Good use of the extra size on Blogger. ;)

Not in a cosmetics ad? What are you trying to tell me, John? That my lashes aren't straight? That I have PORES?! *cries*

Y'know, in my original comment, I had something like "HOLYCRAP this is big." It's really odd seeing your own eyeball at multiple times its actual size. But it's effective!

it may be a cliche subject... but you've handled it well... and i love the skin tone...

however, i'd love to see it without the reflection on the right side... you could crop it... or clone that spot...

The image is already cropped to eliminate the shadow from where the camera in front of my face blocked the light source. Because the camera was blocking the light, I thought it reasonable to use a flash. Because I used a flash, there's a reflection.

At least, I think that's the reflection you're talking about.

I could always try to reshoot the subject. It's not like I'm going anywhere. ;)

And gosh, I hate the skin tone. I puzzled over it for a while before deciding not to stress over the washed-out-ness. I'm surprised you approve, but thanks.

(laugh)... i like the washed-out-ness of it... in fact, i sometimes edit the images of the boys to get a little of that... it isn't accurate color... but i like it...

I like this one a lot - did you do this with the new camera without any macro attachments?

Josy said...

It's been over a month since you asked that question, but I just found it. No- this was taken with my old camera, the Nikon Coolpix 3200, on "macro" mode.

I'm not cool enough for attachments on ANY cameras, new or old.
