In Suburbia, people use hostas to adorn the area around their mailboxes as well as for general landscaping purposes.
Personally, I think they're kind of ugly and badly-proportioned. The flower stalks are wayyyyy too tall and skinny for the bushy plants to which they belong.

Hostas are nice and the blooms are elegant if you can forget the stalks. I have dozens of them in all sizes and shapes and colors and they are a source of food for the hummingbirds and for bumblebees. About the only thing that don't touch them are the squirrels and chipmunks.
Your photograph of this hosta bloom is a good one and not always easy to get.
