fungus 10

As you may guess from the numbering in the title, I've posted a lot of fungi. But none recently! So here is some fungus for you to ogle!
mushroom vs. grass (fungus 9)
GUESS WHAT!!!
Monmouth County Daily Photo, the fraternal twin/ predecessor/ clone blog of Ocean Township Daily Photo (this blog), is ONE YEAR OLD today!
My first ever post was a fungus; I've posted several more fungi since then, but I thought today would be an appropriate occasion to come full circle!
Woooooo!
...plus, the next few days will be full of depressing rain/ice storm photos... there's apparently a Nor'easter headed through this area. So enjoy a sunny grassy photo for the time being. :)

fungus 8

As I was walking along, I saw an old hollow tree stump.
And something in the tree stump caught my eye.
It was fungus #8!
I like fungi.
(Check out MCDP for a slightly more contextual photo of the same subject.)
umbrellas

Overcast/drizzly for the fourth day in a row. The fungi are loving it.
These are tiny umbrella-like mushrooms growing out of the side of a tree.
another fungus-thing

A few days ago, we had some rain, and a whole bunch of these fungus-things started springing up in a 7'x3' patch. Initially wormlike, many of them have quickly budded into the many-peaked monstrosities you see here. They remind me of potato eyes.

puff!

Fungus is SOOOOO COOOOOL. My first ever post for MCDP was a fungus.
We've had a lot of rain lately, and there are mushrooms popping up like you wouldn't believe.
I'm sure this is a common kind of fungus, but I don't know what it is. So. FIVE POINTS to whomever first correctly identifies this fungus.
(Edit: I think it's a specimen of Lycoperdon perlatum.)
You can't spell "fungi" without "fun!"
(For a couple more Monmouth County Fair photos, check out my Flickr page. I'll be removing the photos sooner or later, because I like to keep my Flickr account tidy.)
